Glenn A. Yost is a distinguished Staten Island attorney, decorated law enforcement veteran, educator, and community leader whose life has been defined by an unwavering commitment to public service. With over four decades of experience serving the people of Staten Island, Glenn brings a unique and comprehensive perspective to his campaign for Civil Court Judge, one shaped by years on the front lines of law enforcement, in the courtroom, and at the side of some of Staten Island’s most respected public officials.
Glenn began his career in public service at just twenty years old, when he was sworn in as a New York City Police Officer on January 4, 1984. Over the course of a remarkable 20-year career with the NYPD, he served in some of the city’s most demanding assignments. As a young officer, Glenn was assigned as an undercover operative with the Manhattan South Narcotics Division, later transferring to the Brooklyn South Narcotics Unit where he infiltrated major drug cartels, purchasing large quantities of cocaine, heroin, and firearms. His work contributed to well over 500 buy-and-bust operations and resulted in numerous A-1 felony convictions, including Staten Island’s first “Crack” Cocaine bust.
Glenn’s dedication to the community extended beyond narcotics work. At the 120th Precinct, he built the largest Youth Council in New York City, with over 1,200 young people enrolled, and worked to combat racial tensions in local schools through the “NO SIR” program, standing for No Staten Island Racism. His efforts were recognized by Police Commissioner Lee Brown, who promoted him to Detective Third Grade at just twenty-eight years old. He went on to serve at the 122nd Precinct Detective Squad, investigating homicides, sex crimes, and major felonies, before being selected as a Confidential Aide to the First Deputy Police Commissioner, where he reviewed disciplinary matters affecting 40,000 members of the department.
Glenn was subsequently promoted to Detective Second Grade in 1997 and later selected as Special Assistant to the Chief of Detectives, responding to major crime scenes throughout New York City. In 2000, he was promoted to the coveted rank of Detective First Grade, one of the youngest officers in NYPD history to achieve that distinction. He completed his law enforcement career at the department’s Legal Bureau, serving as a Criminal Legal Advisor to Commanding Officers before retiring in 2004 with one of the most decorated records in department history, including a Commendation with Bronze Star, three Meritorious Police Duty Awards, fourteen Excellent Police Duty Awards, a Unit Citation, a Liberty Citation, and a World Trade Center Citation.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Glenn was on his way to Police Headquarters when he witnessed smoke rising from the Twin Towers. He immediately responded to the scene and, alongside a young rookie officer, began moving hundreds of civilians away from the falling debris. Glenn and the officer reached safety just as the first tower collapsed. For his heroism that day, he was honored by New York Law School with their 911 Hero Student’s Award.
Driven by a fascination with the law he developed during years attending trials and Grand Jury proceedings as a detective, Glenn pursued his legal education while still serving on the force. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University in 1993, and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from New York Law School in 2005. Upon graduating, Glenn embarked on a teaching career, serving as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at St. John’s University and as a History teacher at St. Joseph by the Sea High School, sharing the knowledge and experience of a lifetime in public service with the next generation.
Since opening his own law firm in 2007, Glenn has represented over 2,000 clients in matrimonial, family, and criminal court matters, earning the respect and admiration of jurists in Supreme Court, Family Court, and Criminal Court alike. He also serves as Of Counsel to the prominent personal injury firm Dansker & Aspromonte.
Perhaps most notably, Glenn has served as Of Counsel to New York State Senator Andrew Lanza since 2012. In this role, he has provided legal counsel and guidance to the 24th Senate District, working directly alongside Senator Lanza to navigate complex legal and legislative issues on behalf of Staten Island residents. This long-standing relationship speaks to the trust and confidence that Senator Lanza and the Staten Island political community have placed in Glenn’s legal judgment and his deep understanding of the issues that matter most to this borough.
Glenn’s civic footprint on Staten Island is equally impressive. He is the Founder and Chairman of the St. Peter’s Church Restoration Project, a Board member of the Staten Island Trial Lawyers Association, a Board member of the Congress of Italian American Associations, a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Richmond County Bar Association, and the NYPD Honor Legion, among many other organizations. He has devoted countless hours to youth programs, hospice care, fundraising for local schools and seminaries, and civic associations across Staten Island.
Above all, Glenn is a devoted husband to his wife Sabrina and a proud father of five children, Richard, Brianna, Lauren, Marisa, and Vincent. The Yost family are active parishioners of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.
